According to official statistics every year in the UK alone 2 million TV sets are thrown away and end up on rubbish tips, over 6 million electrical items are also simply thrown away many of which could be reused or recycled. Also in an average year over 15 million mobile phones are upgraded but only 3 million are currently being recycled. This leaves a massive 12 million phones which are being thrown in the bin and not being recycled; many of these are ending up at landfill sites and causing damage to the environment. Also over 60 million ink cartridges used in printers and photocopiers are being used every year, statistics show that only 10% of these are being recycled.

All of the regular household items listed above can be recycled and many can earn us all some extra money. Mobile Phones can be sent into specialist recycling companies which can be found online, for the very old models it’s likely that they will only be worth a minimal amount, the newer models however can be sold for as much as £400 each with free postage. Ink cartridges can also be sent into companies who will either pay you in cash or provide you with credits to receive either free ink or other products in the future. Other items that can be recycled on the internet to earn some extra money include CD’s, DVD’s and old Computer Games just to name a few.

Offline recycling of aluminium cans can be taken to specialized recycling centres where for collecting around 70 you would be paid around 50p. Around the UK there are over 300 centres that will pay in cash for cans.

It’s not just Individuals who can earn money for their recycling efforts; online recycling companies are also looking for representatives of businesses, organizations and charities to send in their old mobile phones. They will also be paid in cash direct to the business and if enough are sent a courier will be sent to pick them up to save time and effort.
